Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the fifth most common cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and the most common cancer of the biliary tract [1]. GBC is associated with very poor 5‑year survival rates of only 5–13% [2, 3]. These poor survival rates root in the usually advanced stage of disease at the time of diagnosis and can be attributed to the aggressive nature of GBC as well as the late onset of symptoms like jaundice or pain. Early GBC is usually defined as a tumor confined to the mucosa or the muscularis propria, which corresponds to stages T1a and T1b according to the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) guidelines [4]. …Anzeige
