Background
In many cases, macular hole and epiretinal membrane require surgical therapy. In rare cases, spontaneous resolution is possible.
Patients and methods
Three cases of vitreoretinal diseases are presented: one case of spontaneous closure of an idiopathic stage III macular hole and two cases of spontaneous self-resolution of an epiretinal membrane.
Results
The idiopathic stage III macular hole resolved after a period of more than 6 years of observation. The idiopathic epiretinal membranes separated spontaneously after several months to years of observation.
Conclusion
Awareness of the possible self-resolution of macular hole and epiretinal membrane is clinically relevant in the treatment of these conditions.
